Such a familiar sight – tourists pausing to gawp in wonder at this amazing structure which , although a terrible cliche now, is nevertheless the ultimate symbol of the city and perhaps the best-recognised monument in the world – way to go Gustaf!

A ‘still life’ I’m particularly fond of. I just like the lines, the balance between the bottle and the cigarette packet, the snow, the strong diagonal, and of course the ever-present question of just how, exactly, that bottle and that packet arrived at that point in their existence. By what hand were they placed or thrown there. And where is that person now. C’est le ‘non-dit’ qui me passionne beaucoup dans la photo…
Beauty is there, under your nose all the time, even in the greyest city, if you keep your eyes open and look out for it! The last of the autumn leaves get an unusual taste of Paris snow just before Christmas.
