On the Bateaux with my Beau
For my first visit to Paris, I decided that some super-touristy fun was in order, regardless of how natives might view the chosen activities. Wandering through the city on our first night there, my beau and I saw a lovely boat pass under us as we crossed the Pont Neuf. It seemed sleeker and fancier than any others we saw and so we spent the next day looking for the same boat while exploring the city along the river. Finally, nearly frozen and weary from the day, we saw it, right at the base of the Eiffel Tower.
And so we booked ourselves the dinner cruise with Bateaux Parisiens
The American Dollar isn’t worth much against the Euro - but even with the less than stellar exchange rate, the splurge seemed worth it to enjoy an evening of sights with wine included. I didn’t expect much from the food, figuring it would be okay, but nothing really great. I was wrong. All the courses were served hot and tasty and the menu was varied and quality. Supposedly, 3 people were to split each bottle of wine - but my date and I had completely control over the two bottles next to us and took care of them just fine on our own by the end of the night. Combined with the included aperitif, we certainly weren’t at a loss for a nice buzzy feeling.
Everything is well-timed, of course, to return you to the dock right when the Eiffel Tower goes extra glitzy. There’s even live music and dancing, for those so inclined.
I recommend the cruise for any visitor looking for a bit of a glam look at Paris from the Seine and for locals looking to have a bit of an in-town wonder at their own city.
